18, shop assistant from Alltwen, South Wales.

TOTP: What’s the meaning behind your new single 'Blink'?
Rosie Ribbons:
I suppose a lot of people would say I am man-bashing. It’s about a guy who is just flirting around and looking at other girls and being naughty like that. I get annoyed by it and sing about it. I think a lot of girls will be able to relate to that.

TOTP:
Is it true you had to re-write some of the naughtier lyrics?
Rosie Ribbons:
Yeah, a couple of the words in there were a bit too saucy or explicit, so it’s understandable for kid’s TV that they had to be changed. When I heard the song for the first time I thought that if those words were in there just to stir it up a bit then I wouldn’t have done it. I think the words fit with the whole vibe of the song.

TOTP:
Do you regret taking them out?
Rosie Ribbons:
No I don’t regret it. Obviously I prefer the original version but it’s understandable because kids are listening and that’s fair enough.

TOTP:
Has Pop Idol has changed you?
Rosie Ribbons:
I think that I’m the same person I've always been. I think I’m always going to be grounded because of my family and friends and the way that I’ve been brought up. I don’t think I’ll change. It’s nice that my confidence has grown. I used to be very nervy about singing because I hadn’t done it professionally. I don’t have any qualms about getting up there and singing now.

TOTP:
Are you recording an album right now?
Rosie Ribbons:
We actually recorded the album after I finished the Pop Idol tour. It’ll be out next year, and it’s an overview of everything I listen to, but interpreted in my way. I like all sorts of music. I like R&B, ballads, rock...

TOTP:
We heard you hated rock?
Rosie Ribbons:
Well I don’t go for heavy rock. ACDC’s a bit too much for me but I love all the electric guitars and stuff. But there’s something for everybody in the album. Lots of people can listen to it and relate to it. I co-wrote stuff on it so there’s my own stamp on it as well.

TOTP:
Crunch time now...who do you prefer out of Will and Gareth’s music?
Rosie Ribbons:
I know that a lot of people will say I’m just saying this but they are two different artists, and I like listening to all sorts of music. But if I am in a Will mood I’ll listen to Will and if I’m in a Gareth mood I’ll listen to Gareth. I think they have different kinds of music for different people. I wouldn’t say that either one was better than the other because they cater for different audiences. I think they’re both really good.

TOTP:
If you could duet with anyone, who would it be?
Rosie Ribbons:
I’d love to do a duet with a really soulful singer. I think I’d do a lovely ballad with Mariah or Whitney, but then I’d also love to do something cool, like an R&B track with someone like Ja Rule.

TOTP: So, are you dating anyone right now?
Rosie Ribbons:
I’m not actually [laughs]. I don’t think at the moment it’s really fair to be dating anyone. I’m really busy and I don’t think it’d be fair for someone to be sitting at home waiting for me. What I’m doing is really demanding. The days when I’m really tired and stressed out I’d probably take it all out on them. I want to concentrate on what I’m doing right now, it takes up all my concentration.

TOTP:
OK, is there anyone you fancy on the pop scene?
Rosie Ribbons:
There’s loads of good looking blokes out there right now. To look at they’re all handsome but to fancy someone I need to know what their personalities are like. If someone is good looking but they have an ugly personality then that really puts me right off. I haven’t met anyone where I thought they were really, really nice.

TOTP:
Is Simon Cowell a nasty pasty or a little teddy bear?
Rosie Ribbons:
He’s actually all right. On the show he was doing his job and obviously came over as really nasty. But he was only doing his job and we knew when we were going on that show that we were going to be criticised. He’s a professional, he did his job, we did our jobs and that’s all there was to it really. I’m not the person who can say really cos I don’t know him but I’m sure that deep down, he’s lovely.

TOTP:
Who are you into at the moment?
Rosie Ribbons:
I’m really into P!nk at the moment. Her album is fantastic. There’s so much good music flying around at the moment I find it really difficult to put my finger on any one artist and say that they stand out. I pretty much like everything that’s in the charts at the moment, and I think the reason that no one is really staying at No.1 for very long is because there is so much good stuff out there at the moment.

TOTP:
What’s been your most embarrassing moment?
Rosie Ribbons:
I was shopping on my own in Swansea and I had some really baggy trousers on. I wanted to cross the road and saw a woman driving and thought, "I’ve just got time to quickly cross over." I tripped over my own trousers right in the middle of the road. There was a whole line of traffic. My knee was bleeding, I went red and my hair was a mess, that was pretty embarrassing. One time I got my heel stuck in a hole in the back of a taxi. I had stiletto shoes on couldn’t get out. I had to break my shoe in the end to get out, and my friends just laughed at me.

TOTP:
What’s this about buying your dad a pink plane with your first million?
Rosie Ribbons:
I wasn’t serious when I said that. It was more of a family joke. I don’t have a million. I keep seeing everywhere that I have signed this million-pound deal but people don’t realise that the money is across five albums. And I might not even do five albums and so I won’t get that money.

TOTP:
Finally... describe yourself in one word.
Rosie Ribbons:
Erm... I’m quite nutty. Really hyperactive.

TOTP:
Oi! That's two words!
Rosie Ribbons:
OK! OK! I’d say hyperactive then.
