Big Rik Waller and train driver Aaron Bayley became the last two to reach the grand final of TV's Pop Idol tonight.
The 20-stone 20-year-old and Geordie railwayman pulled enough weight to knock off Darius Danesh, who came back from the brink of a breakdown after his ridiculed performance on Pop Stars to perform on the ITV1 talent-spotting show.
Rik, from Gillingham in Kent, gave a heartfelt rendition of I Can't Make You Love Me to receive a 25.6% of the public vote while Aaron from Newcastle came in just behind with 24.9% with his performance of Walking In Memphis.
The pair now go through to the final 10 which will be whittled down each week to find the ultimate Pop Idol.
On getting through a humble Rik, who had been accused by critic Simon Cowell of becoming "too big-headed" in his general attitude, said to his eight rivals: "Sorry guys. I would like to say that all the eight are absolutely brilliant."
Music producer Pete Waterman reiterated his criticism of Rik's weight saying: "I do think you have a good voice but so did Harry Secombe. We are looking for someone who is going to look like a star, a major artist."
Before the show Rik had said: "I do not see myself as a pop idol but I think I am someone who could be idolised."
He did not want sympathy votes for being overweight, making the situation clear by saying: "If I am the best vote for me, if I am not, don't."
Aaron, who drives trains for Arriva Northern said he was "on top of the world ... absolutely ecstatic" at getting through, despite admitting to "feeling a bit flatulent" before his performance.
In third place was Darius Danesh, 21, from Glasgow with 19.9%, in fourth place Sarah Whatmore, 20, from Manchester with 19.8% and in fifth came Vanessa Cavanagh, 18, from Middlesex with 3.5%.
